Notes on 'Trying To Make Sense (Of The World)', a piece for solo synthesizer:

"recorded and performed on a single keyboard synthesizer in 1 indeterminate take. trying to make sense (of the world), as 1 does in 1's own life "outside" of music; continually making movements toward uncertainty and then noticing how the world responds to such movements (like what has changed, what has stayed the same, and what does that mean 1 should do), provoking/prompting further necessary decision-making (or instinctual 'reactions') at each new point, all the while seeking to float along (fully present, when possible) in order to observe life with some sense of comfort, confidence, and delight, or some blissful illusion of control, without becoming (or feeling) 'stuck' or too stagnant for 1's own liking (for potentially unhealthy lengths of time), and yet...something about the idea of moving (potentially aimless, at times) naturally in any direction seems to yield 'truer' results (or subsequent new points) compared to spending (too much) time/energy on where 1 particular movement will take 1 particular self. okay, fine, but really there is no 1 best practice, so 1 tries to find a personal balance; this nearly 1-hour demonstration on a single keyboard synthesizer in 1 indeterminate take contains elements of both the so-called making movements toward uncertainty (etc.) and the so-called spending (just enough) time/energy on where 1 particular movement will take 1 particular self (etc.). as all of this is happening, 1 finds that trying to make sense (of the world) demands improvisation!
